PRESS RELEASE

DUCKSTEIN BREWERY WINS
‘AUSTRALIAN CAN OF THE YEAR.’

The Australian Beer Can Collectors Association (ABCCA) held their annual
‘Canathon’ in Newcastle, NSW in January 2010. Here it was announced that the
winner of ‘2009 Can of the Year’ was Western Australia’s Duckstein Brewery. This
award was voted for by approximately 400 members throughout Australia and the
Duckstein won ‘by a considerable margin.’ It is not the first time a West Australian
Brewery has won the award, past winners include.. Matilda Bay in 1992, Fremantle
Bitter in 1993, Swan 1857 Bitter in 1999 and The Swan Brewery in 2008.

“The award has predominantly been won by large Eastern States Breweries and this is
the first time that a small boutique brewery has won the award.” Luc Dupagne
(president of ABCCA WA division)

On Saturday March 13 the WA Division of the ABCCA presented the trophy to
Duckstein Brewery Director Tim Forster.
“We are very proud to receive this award. Selling packaged beer has not really been
one of our priorities and this award and subsequent attention has taken us completely
by surprise. Since being announced as the winner we have been inundated with
requests from all over the world for the minikeg and we are having trouble keeping up
with demand.” Tim Forster

The can features artwork and design by Nannup artist Marion O’Callaghan. Her
painting features the iconic lone-gum tree on the picturesque Saracen Estate in
Margaret River, where the Duckstein Brewery is situated. Unfortunately, the tree was
destroyed by lightning in late 2009.

“Marion’s experience as a book illustrator and designer has seen her nominated
several times for the WA Premier’s Book Awards. She is pleased to add ‘Can of the
Year 2009’ to her list of achievements.” Tim Forster

Can -although most of the stock was destroyed when the Adelaide Crows produced a
shock win, some cans managed to be find there way into private collections.
